An Overview

Everyone with an affinity to travel to the mountains has heard of Parvati Valley, Kullu Valley, Solang Valley, Sangla Valley or Spiti Valley. But how many people really know what a gem Tirthan Valley is! Also known as Banjar Valley, located in the Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh, Tirthan is one of the few lesser explored valleys of India, with a huge potential for travel and tourism.

Named after the majestic Tirthan River, the valley is also home to the newly recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site – The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP). GHNP is a treasure wich rich biodiversity. It is the natural habitat of western Himalayan tragopan, monal, cheer, Koklass pheasant, Kalij pheasant and Himalayan snowcock. Blue sheep, Himalayan goral, musk deer and Himalayan tahr are also found in this region.

Serolsar Lake is revered on both sides of the ridge and numerous pilgrims trek up to the lake from nearby villages. The path from Jalori Pass to the lake is dominated by Kharsu oak trees. Jibhi is an ideal destination to unwind and to introspect and is surrounded by thick pine and deodar forests. Shoja is famous for its scenic surroundings and is a picturesque village. Jalori Pass offers panoramic views of the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges.
